Watercolor painting of Duoma of Giarre-part 2

As I continue painting you can see this landmark building of the Dome of Giarre slowly taking shape.  I have to say I’ve had a busy week with everything but painting!    Well, I did manage to make a little progress and I will keep moving along, posting as I go!

Watercolor Painting of the Duomo of Giarre-part 1

The beginning stages of this watercolor painting of Duoma of Giarre in Italy is interesting. Most photos are taken from the front of the building but a family member gave me some pictures taken from the rear.  The dome itself is beautiful but when this painting is finished it will showcase the atmosphere of the sky.  This is day one, where I have sketched the image and laid in the first watercolor glaze in mostly grey.

My daughter and I, with Dave, had another fun day sketching at the San Diego Zoo this weekend.  Dave was so patient to tag along!  There were so many animals to see, and the foliage is beautiful!

                                           Here we are, sketching.

Dave and Janna on an escalator.

The Okapi’s were really rambunctious, playing tag and falling down!

The Rhinos weren’t interested in posing.

Beautiful Rainbow Eucalyptus trees just outside the Zoo entrance.

Sketching at the Santa Ana Zoo

My daughter with her instructor sketching a camel

I joined my daughter's art class on a trip to the Santa Ana Zoo.  Here she is learning to do gesture drawings of a camel with her instructor.  Below are some of my sketches.
A few of my sketches from the Crean Family Farm
This year I plan to start a new adventure painting more landscapes.  I avoid them because they are hard!

I’ve been primarily an illustrator for advertising things like retail products, fashion, food, etc. and also books & portraits.

So in making way for this new adventure I plan to sell some of my original paintings by online auction.  It’s kind of an experiment because I’ve never done it before so I will keep you posted as I arrange things.

Good Bones, Great Pieces

My painting of the Watercolor wheel was included in a new interior design book, good bones, great pieces - the seven essential pieces that will carry you through a lifetime (pg.173), by Suzan & Lauren McGrath, published by Stewart,Tabori & Chang, an imprint of ABRAMS.

I was pleased that my color wheel was printed exactly as my original!  Editor Dervla Kelly https://twitter.com/TheCuratorblog was so thorough and easy to work with!  The main illustrator’s beautiful, delicate watercolors were those of AliceTait.

A good experience with this publisher!

Character Sketching

The Sneezing Wal-Mart Lady    #2 Pencil Sketch

This character sketch drawing is one of a typical scene this winter. The place is Wal-Mart and the "character" is a lady with both sleeves stuffed with spare tissues, yet she cannot contain her sneezes.  These ladies can be found at work, too.  Steer clear of characters like this!
